How an HT bill is built

  1. Billable demand = the higher of Maximum Demand and the minimum share of Contract Demand (75% in UP).
  2. Demand charge = billable demand × demand rate.
  3. Excess-demand charge = kVA above Contract Demand × demand rate × the excess multiple (2 in UP, on top of the demand charge).
  4. Energy charge = units × energy rate, then the TOD surcharge on peak-hour units and the rebate on off-peak units.
  5. FPPAS and electricity duty are added from the bill; the due-date rebate comes off if you pay on time.

UP HV-2 rates filled in

The supply voltage buttons fill in the UPERC 2026-27 HV-2 urban rates: ₹300 per kVA and ₹7.10 per kVAh up to 11 kV, ₹290 and ₹6.80 up to 66 kV, ₹270 and ₹6.40 up to 132 kV, and ₹270 and ₹6.10 above 132 kV. TOD is +15% in peak hours and −15% off-peak. The UP electricity tariff guide lists the TOD hours and every other rule.

Gujarat and Torrent Power rates filled in

Gujarat bills HT energy in kWh, not kVAh. For PGVCL, DGVCL, MGVCL and UGVCL (HTP-I) the calculator applies the GERC schedule from 1 April 2026: billing demand is the highest of Maximum Demand, 85% of contract demand and 100 kVA; the demand charge is ₹150, ₹260 and ₹475 per kVA in slabs, and ₹555 per kVA above contract demand; energy is 400 to 430 paise per unit by billing demand; peak hours (7–11 am, 6–10 pm) add 45 or 85 paise a unit, and units used between 11 am and 5 pm get 60 paise off. Power factor below 90% adds a share of the energy charge, and above 95% earns some back.

Torrent Power Ahmedabad (demand in kW) and Surat (demand in kVA) have their own schedules, with peak hours of 6–8 am and 5–11 pm and a 30 paise rebate on units used between 11 am and 3 pm. The Gujarat tariff guide lists every rate. For any other state, pick Uttar Pradesh and type your own rates over the filled-in ones.

Where the bill moves most

  • Maximum Demand: one interval above contract demand is charged three times over in UP. See how to reduce Maximum Demand.
  • Peak-hour units: each unit moved to off-peak hours saves 30% of the energy rate.
  • Power factor: on kVAh billing it raises the units and the kVA demand. See improve power factor.

KONDUKTOR® EMS works out the same bill lines from your own meters as the month runs: running Maximum Demand against contract demand, kVAh by TOD zone and power factor, so you see the bill before the DISCOM sends it.

Common questions

How is an HT electricity bill calculated?+

Demand charge on the billable demand (the higher of maximum demand and the minimum share of contract demand), plus any excess-demand charge above contract demand, plus units times the energy rate, plus or minus the TOD surcharge and rebate. FPPAS and electricity duty are then added, and a due-date rebate is taken off if you pay on time.

What is billable demand?+

The demand the demand charge is worked out on: the higher of the month’s recorded maximum demand and a fixed share of contract demand. In Uttar Pradesh that share is 75%. In Gujarat it is 85%, with a minimum of 100 kVA on HT.

Why does the calculator leave out FPPAS and electricity duty?+

Neither is in the tariff schedule. FPPAS changes month to month and can be negative, and electricity duty is set by the state government. Add both from your latest bill.

Can I use this calculator for another state?+

Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat (PGVCL, DGVCL, MGVCL and UGVCL) and Torrent Power Ahmedabad and Surat have their rates filled in. For any other state, pick Uttar Pradesh and type your own demand rate, energy rate, minimum billing share, excess-demand rate and TOD percentages over the filled-in values.

How is an HT bill calculated in Gujarat?+

On HTP-I: a demand charge in slabs on the billing demand (the highest of maximum demand, 85% of contract demand and 100 kVA), ₹555 per kVA above contract demand, an energy charge per kWh, a peak-hour charge in paise per unit, a 60 paise concession on units used from 11 am to 5 pm, a power factor penalty below 90% or rebate above 95%, and a rebate for supply at 11 kV and above. FPPAS and electricity duty are added from the bill.
